Personal Days

You know, I do get some personal days every year, but in most cases, I can barely take all the vacation I have because I work so much.  Heck, I think I have worked at least half the Saturdays in the last year.  Maybe I should take a couple just to see what it’s like?

Matt Forsythe – Artist

Matt Forsythe is a Canadian artist and former resident of Korea. He posted a wonderful comic back in December of 2008. The artwork has the feel of a aboriginal painting from Australia.

Check out the entire comic at his “ojingogo” site.

Illustrator Jennifer Nicholls

Some time back in late 2007 I discovered the artwork of Jennifer Nicholls on a now-long-abandoned site. I was blown away by the paintings she was working on. This one was labeled as “Sutter” but apparently not John Sutter of California gold rush fame. Rather this is Matt Sutter.

Also the following self portrait was posted.

What impresses me most is how loose the line work is while the overall execution is very tight. The combination of careful detail and whimsical, flowing lines reminds me of Japanese brushwork. I love it. Here is a detail.

My advice would be to go to her site ( Jennifer Nicholls ) and peruse the 100 or so images she has posted in her portfolio.

Inspiration – An introduction

Well, it has been a looooong time since I posted at Antithesis Art. Oh how the best laid schemes of mice, men, and horrible mutant micemen gang aft agley! Scott has been keeping the Antithesis Heartbeat thumping away on his own for some time now. With that in mind, he suggested that even if we don’t have time for some artwork, we very well might have some time to write up a post. I agree. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!

In that spirit, allow me to introduce to you the “Inspiration” post category. It is very categorical. Generally, I’d like for us to keep to the general topic of Art and Design in general, and of course we need to consider our massive under-13 readership by keeping it clean. Here are some suggested ideas:

  • A how-to post.
  • A quick write up of a favorite artist.
  • A link to an interesting event, contest, or concept.

You know, filler. But quality, useful, excellent filler.

And of course we’d all like to get back to posting artwork. Once our schemes stop gang aft agley.
